Paige Normand

Digitally Adept Educator & Consultant

I am passionate about empowering learners and leveraging technology to improve communication and pedagogy.

I have over 15 years of experience teaching and consulting in higher education and five years of experience advising and supporting cross-disciplinary digital literacy and production.

Leadership

2014-2018: I founded and coordinated James Madison University's Digital Communication Consulting (DigiComm), where I trained undergraduate tutors to help students develop skills to produce more sophisticated and professional online content that extend beyond the classroom.

2019-2024: I founded and coordinated the CS Ambassadors for the Department of Computer Science. We supported outreach within our growing department, to our local community, and for prospective students through events, video chats, presentations, and workshops.

Instruction

Instruction

As an instructor, my top priority is empowering learners to create ethical, meaningful, and innovative digital composition.

I have taught a range of courses, including digital communication consulting, professional portfolios for computer science majors, Agile in the classroom, and writing for new media. Every course has focused on hands-on creation and problem solving scaffolded with many stages of drafting and revision, peer review, and learner-focused feedback.

My Production

I am passionate about learning new tools, digital strategies, and platforms that can enhance my pedagogy and consultations. Most recently, I am training an AI Assistant to test its viability as an Advising resource.

My  hands-on experience prepares me to discuss common pitfalls, timelines, and best production strategies with faculty and students.

"Paige joined the CS department in 2019 as our first designated academic advisor. Her commitment to student success, along with her insightful experiences and knowledge of best practices, has been an invaluable addition as our department focuses on broadening inclusion in our major. Paige launched the CS Ambassadors Program, spearheaded prospective student outreach, and created a brand for our department that is woven into our online and physical space.

In short: Paige changed the face of our department both externally and internally.

Her enthusiasm for quality work, professionalism, and her ability to quickly learn and incorporate new technologies in her work has been a huge asset to our students and department. And from perspective in the role of AUH and faculty member, Paige has been a joy to work with every day."

CS Department Head (2010-2024)
